NIRCOHS: Part of the Confederation of Indigenous Workers

The National Indigenous Research Council for Occupational Health and Safety (NIRCOHS) is proud to be part of the Confederation of Indigenous Workers (COIW).

COIW was established to support Indigenous workers and help create stronger opportunities, safer workplaces, and better outcomes for Indigenous people. NIRCOHS builds on that mission by bringing a dedicated focus to occupational health and safety research.

Through NIRCOHS, we are working to better understand the experiences, challenges, and opportunities that shape the health and safety of Indigenous workers throughout their working lives.

Our research is grounded in the belief that Indigenous communities should have a meaningful role in defining the questions, priorities, and outcomes that affect them. By listening to communities and supporting Indigenous-led approaches to research, we aim to develop knowledge that is relevant, practical, and capable of supporting lasting change.

Being part of COIW connects NIRCOHS to a broader vision for Indigenous workers and communities. While NIRCOHS focuses specifically on research and occupational health and safety, our work contributes to a shared commitment to creating safer, healthier, and more equitable futures.

As NIRCOHS grows, we look forward to building on the foundation created by COIW and developing new partnerships, research initiatives, and resources that support Indigenous workers and communities.

Together, we are working toward a future where Indigenous workers are supported by research, systems, and workplaces that recognize their experiences, respect their knowledge, and put their health and safety first.
